Route dossier 03 · Lake Ontario

Waterfront Trail East

Leave from Toronto and keep the lake nearby: a flexible line through waterfront parks, communities, quiet connectors, and the changing edge of the city.

Why this route

The trip can begin at home.

The Great Lakes Waterfront Trail creates many possible eastbound trips from Toronto. A shorter version can focus on Toronto and Durham; longer versions can continue through lakeside communities farther east.

This is not one uninterrupted separated path. The route mixes multi-use trail, local streets, on-road sections, and connectors whose comfort can vary. The final line is chosen for the riders, not simply copied from a map.

A representative day

Meet at a convenient Toronto start, follow a mix of waterfront sections and community streets, stop where services are available, and end at a planned stay or support rendezvous. Daily distance is flexible.

Getting back

The return is part of the itinerary, not an afterthought. Depending on the final endpoint and current operating rules, it may use a support-vehicle pickup or a transit-compatible segment. The booking will not promise train carriage where it is unavailable.
