Route dossier 01 · Simcoe County, Ontario

Simcoe County Loop Trail

A mostly off-road loop through rail corridors, waterfronts, towns, and rural stretches—with the satisfying simplicity of finishing where the trip began.

Why this route

A real Ontario journey with straightforward logistics.

The official 160-kilometre loop connects nine Simcoe County municipalities and reaches Georgian Bay, Lake Simcoe, and Lake Couchiching. It links former rail corridors and waterfront trails into a route that is primarily off-road and well suited to a multi-day pace.

Three days keeps the trip moving; four creates more room for stops, instruction, and a comfortable first loaded-bike experience. Because it is a loop, the start and finish can use the same general staging area.

A representative day

Breakfast and a bike check, a steady trail block, a planned community stop, and a shorter afternoon to camp or an indoor stay. Exact daily distances depend on the group and overnight availability.

What still gets checked

Current trail notices, surface conditions, construction, seasonal use, water and food stops, legal overnight options, accommodation availability, and the exact Toronto transport plan are confirmed for the departure. Some sections are rougher or more remote than others.
